Harry Potter?

Question

Harry Potter?
I have been thinking about this for awhile. If a muggle were to find a wand somwhere and knew the incantation to a spell, do you think they would be able to use the want to do the spell? Essencially if a muggle found a wand could they do magic? Just curious on what other people thought.

Answer

No, in the HP world, magical abilities are definitely something you are either born with or not. Notice, for example, how I can see things like The Leaky Cauldron that are invisible to Muggles. This is, perhaps, the most important aspect of magic all of our magical abilities stem from our quotextrasensoryquot abilities. We can communicate with animals. Its quite likely that potion making is something only a magicallyendowed person can do, and that proper perception of the potion ingredients and how to prepare them requires magical senses.brbrSo, know, even if a Muggle knew both the words and the proper motion, and even if they captured the wand from a wizard, they would not be able to cast a spell.brbrConsider, as further evidence, the way things went in my first class. Even we wizards and witches were unable to change a match into a pin, though Hermione managed to change hers somewhat. The point is, it takes more than a wand, it takes more than knowing the words and the motions, it takes both an underlying naturalborn ability and an understanding of the processes involved to create magic.brbrHarry
